American Wind Energy Association CEO Tom Kiernan praised the passage of clean energy legislation in New Jersey that will add 3,500 megawatts of new installed offshore wind capacity. Gov. Phil Murphy "sent an unambiguous signal that New Jersey is ready for clean energy investment that will lead to good jobs and a more prosperous economy," said Kiernan.

Opinion: Congress should fund job training for clean energy
The positions of wind turbine technician and solar installer will likely be the fastest growing jobs through 2026 and Congress should take advantage of that momentum by investing in job-training initiatives for the industries, writes Clean Energy Leadership Institute fellow Becky Cairns, citing Labor Department data. "Injecting federal dollars presents the best opportunity to produce the workers we need to develop our offshore wind resources and send more carbon-free electricity to the grid," she writes.

NextEra seeks approval to install lighting tech at N.D. wind farm
NextEra Energy Resources is seeking approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before installing light-mitigating technology at its Oliver III project, says Communications Manager Bryan Garner. The North Dakota Public Service Commission requires the project to install the technology by the end of the year, but Garner says NextEra needs federal approval before it can move forward.

Avangrid Renewables begins operations at N.M. project
Avangrid Renewables has reached full operations at its 142-turbine, 298-megawatt El Cabo Wind Farm near Encino, N.M., which is creating opportunities for the surrounding community. "These are good-paying jobs. If it wasn't for opportunities like this, I'd have to leave the state," said Shane Ferreira, who works at El Cabo.

UK firm Texo Drone Survey and Inspection and other industry partners have launched an initiative that hopes to use smart technology to gather data about the offshore wind industry. That will cut operations and maintenance costs and improve safety, according to the partners. Texo DSI will conduct drone surveys for the project.

Kan., Mo. utilities to form single, renewables-focused firm
Missouri utility Great Plains Energy and Kansas utility Westar Energy have secured regulatory approval to merge into a single entity known as Evergy. The deal is expected to close in June, and the resulting parent company will source nearly one-third of its total electricity from renewables and will work to create more renewable energy buying options for its customers, said the companies.
