Visa pledges 100% renewables by the end of next year

Visa has joined RE100 and set a goal to source 100% of its electrical needs worldwide from renewables by the end of 2019, according to the firm. Currently, Visa sources about 35% of its global energy needs from a combination of renewables, including wind and solar.

Report: 75.5% of Okla. residents support Wind Catcher
Nearly 80% of Oklahomans support Invenergy and GE Renewable Energy's 2-gigawatt Wind Catcher Energy Connection project proposed for the state, with 45% of those polled expressing strong support for the initiative, according to SoonerPoll. The survey also found 78% of state residents to support wind and renewable energy development in general, as well as broad support for Wind Catcher regardless of age, geographical location and political beliefs.

Analysis: Md. is accelerating shift to US offshore wind leader

A wind farm under development by Minuteman Wind in Savoy, Mass., is on track and the firm expects to break ground by the May deadline, said Managing Member Larry Plitch. The project is expected to have a capacity of 12.5 megawatts.

Vattenfall, partners seek right to develop offshore wind site in France
Vattenfall has partnered with French financial firm Caisse des Depots and WPD and is bidding in a tender organized by the French government for the right to develop Eliade offshore wind project off the coast of Dunkirk. The project would have a capacity between 250 megawatts and 750 MW, said Vattenfall.

Private investors form JV to invest in North American clean energy
Private investment firms Ardian and Transatlantic Power have formed a joint venture in which they plan to build out a 3-gigawatt clean energy portfolio in North America. So far, the venture has purchased RES and JPMorgan's 60-megawatt Whirlwind wind site in Texas.

Trump: NAFTA adjustment could lead to tariff exemptions for Canada, Mexico
President Donald Trump wrote in a tweet this morning that Canada and Mexico might be able to receive exemptions from planned steel and aluminum tariffs if they agree to a new North American Free Trade Agreement. The tweet mentions "large trade deficits" with the two nations and says the tariffs "will only come off if new & fair NAFTA agreement is signed."

Land-based wind costs are declining in France, says government
The cost of land-based wind is declining in France, as can be seen at the close of the nation's latest land-based wind tender in which 22 projects won the right to develop a cumulative 508.4 megawatts of installed wind capacity, said the French government. "The maturity and competitiveness of onshore wind and more widely renewable energies are a reality," said Energy Minister Nicolas Hulot.
