Calif. utilities to meet 50% renewables goal 10 years early
California's utilities are on track to source 50% of their total electricity from renewables by 2020, 10 years ahead of the state's 2030 goal, according to the California Energy Commission. "We would have never gotten renewable energy prices where they are today without really ambitious public policy. It shows the importance of bold goals," said Gov. Jerry Brown.

Opinion: Offshore wind holds huge potential for N.H.
The Pease International Tradeport in New Hampshire could play a critical role in the growth of the US offshore wind industry, with the potential to become a manufacturing and assembly hub, writes Michael Behrmann, director of the New Hampshire Clean Tech Council. "As this growing industry begins to take form in the Northeast and along the eastern seaboard, we must carefully consider how New Hampshire can leverage our advantages to engage in this developing and as yet untapped industry," he writes.

Analysis: Falling costs, innovation made 2017 monumental for offshore wind
2017 was an unforgettable year for the offshore wind industry, characterized by dramatic cost-savings, technological advances, the widespread adoption of the energy source and the realization that the industry can drive manufacturing and job creation, writes David Foxwell. Challenges remain, however, argues Foxwell, citing a lack of operations and maintenance infrastructure to support the industry's rapid growth.

Slanted GateHouse Media story omits most people's experience of life near wind farms
Context matters. And that's exactly what is lacking in a recent report by GateHouse Media that amplifies the complaints of a small number of the millions of Americans living near wind farms, while downplaying the vast majority who welcome the benefits of a new cash crop for rural America. And it perpetuates baseless claims, in most cases without offering any evidence, which is as bad or worse of a journalistic practice than selectivity.
