Analysis: Republican support for wind helping protect PTC phaseout
The Senate's proposal for tax reform and broad support for wind in states largely controlled by Republicans will help protect the industry from a provision in the House bill that would unravel the wind energy Production Tax Credit phaseout, writes Dino Grandoni. American Wind Energy Association CEO Tom Kiernan said, however, that the House measure has created uncertainty for the sector and is already upsetting established investments.

Policies passed by the Nebraska Legislature "have really created an environment for more wind development," American Wind Energy Association CEO Tom Kiernan said. State Sen. John McCollister helped advance a bill in 2016 reducing the restrictions for new wind projects -- a measure that McCollister says has helped the industry take off across the state.

Opinion: Hypocritical House tax bill threatens critical economic driver
The hypocritical tax measure proposed by House Republicans favors fossil fuels at the expense of renewables, a critical economic driver in the US responsible for almost $100 billion worth of new investments made over the past two years, writes Gregory Wetstone, president and CEO of the American Council on Renewable Energy. "Retroactive changes to rules that investors relied on in financial decisions are inherently unfair and have no place in tax reform," he writes of the proposed wind energy Production Tax Credit phaseout repeal.

Editorial: Neb. utility's 50% renewable energy pledge is impressive
The Omaha Public Power District's pledge to source 50% of its total retail electricity from renewables by 2020 is impressive, and all the more so because it's also decommissioning the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station, writes the editorial board of the Omaha World-Herald. "OPPD seems to be making a sound economic and environmental choice, based on affordability and sustainability," it writes.

Report: Ireland can't meet 100% by 2050 target without wind
Ireland's lack of a plan to drive wind development puts it in danger of missing its 100% by 2050 renewable energy target, according to the Irish Wind Farmers Association.
