Pruitt would eliminate wind, solar tax credits
The wind energy Production Tax Credit and other renewable energy tax credits should be eliminated so the industry can compete on its own against coal and other energy sources, said Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt at an event in Kentucky on Monday. American Wind Energy Association CEO Tom Kiernan defended the tax credits during last week's Conservative Clean Energy Summit and urged the government to uphold the planned wind energy PTC phaseout.

Report: Offshore wind in North Atlantic could power the world
The North Atlantic Ocean has a huge potential for offshore wind development and could support enough installed capacity to meet 100% of the world's electricity needs during the winter months, according to the Carnegie Institution for Science. "I would look at this as kind of a greenlight for that industry from a geophysical point of view," said researcher Ken Caldeira.

An ongoing debate over the effect of wind development on the US Army's Fort Drum in New York could disrupt the wind industry and cost counties like Lewis County millions of dollars in lost revenue through tax payments and land leases, writes Michael Tabolt, chairman of the Lewis County Board of Legislators. Tabolt objects to a proposed ban on wind development and urges lawmakers to find a solution that will allow the county to support an industry many local farmers refer to as "Lewis County's third crop."

Iowa will continue to embrace wind regardless of CPP, says official
Iowa will continue to pursue wind and solar development regardless of the Trump administration's plans to repeal the Clean Power Plan, said Brenna Smith, a spokeswoman for Gov. Kim Reynolds. "Iowa didn't need permission from the federal government when it was the first state to establish a renewable portfolio standard in 1983, and we aren't going to wait for the federal government to act when determining our actions today," she said.
