GE Renewable introduces new 4.8-MW turbine model
GE Renewable Energy has introduced the latest addition to its 4-megawatt turbine class -- a 4.8-MW turbine with a 158-meter rotor diameter for land-based wind, said the company. "It is well suited to low to medium wind speed regions worldwide -- examples include Germany, Turkey and Australia," said President and CEO of Onshore Wind Peter McCabe.

Wind-military siting is a federal issue, advocate says

The relationship between wind farm siting and military operations should be left to the federal government instead of dealt with on a state-by-state basis, said Wind Coalition Executive Director Jeff Clark. "Anti-wind groups have figured out that this is an issue that they can use to drive a wedge between communities, and to raise concern even if those concerns aren't warranted," he said.

Dong Energy wins contract for 1,386-MW UK offshore wind farm
Dong Energy has won a government contract to move forward with its proposed 1,386-megawatt Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm off the coast of England, according to the company. "Not only will Hornsea Project Two provide low cost, clean energy to the UK, it will also deliver high quality jobs and another huge boost to the UK supply chain," said Managing Director Matthew Wright.

Windhoist finishes installing 70 turbines at Australian wind farm
Windhoist has successfully installed 70 Goldwind GW2500 turbines at its 175-megawatt White Rock project in Australia, according to the company. The project is being co-developed by Goldwind and CECEP Wind Power, another Chinese wind firm.

Vestas plans new wind turbine plant in Russia
Vestas has agreed to build a new turbine factory in Ulyanovsk, Russia, that will focus on blade production, according to the Russian Association of Wind Power Industry. "Vestas is also planning to launch training programs to facilitate the skill and knowledge transfer necessary to set up local production," said Ulyanovsk Region Development General Director Sergey Vasin.

DNV GL opens control hardware testing facility for renewables
DNV GL has launched a control hardware-in-the-loop testing center in the Netherlands that the company says is an affordable and low-risk way to test renewable energy controllers. The facility uses a real-time wind farm simulator to test different conditions power plant controllers may face.

Analysis: UK firms must make offshore wind success global

Calif. lawmakers to consider 100% clean energy bill this week
Lawmakers in California are expected to take up a measure sponsored by state Senate Leader Kevin de Leon this week that would require the state to source 100% of its electricity from clean energy sources by 2045. Lawmakers are also considering a proposal to create a regional electrical grid that Gov. Jerry Brown says would promote the spread of renewables.

German lawmakers, trade groups call for more offshore wind
Lawmakers from several German states and cities, along with trade groups like the Offshore Wind Industry Alliance have written a letter to the German government calling for the greater adoption of offshore wind. The 11-point paper dubbed the Cuxhaven Appeal 2.0 petitions the German government to add up to 30 gigawatts of new installed offshore wind capacity by 2035.
