Wind has broad support in Niagara County, N.Y., and specifically in the towns of Somerset and Yates where Apex Clean Energy has proposed building its Lighthouse Wind project, writes Lauren D'Avolio. Development Manager Taylor Quarles said the company has had success educating residents on the benefits of wind and with community outreach programs.

    Mitsubishi, Allianz invest $340M in Enel Okla. wind farm

    Enel Green Power has sold 100% of its "B" shares in its 300-megawatt Red Dirt project in Oklahoma to Mitsubishi UFJ Financial and Allianz for $340 million, according to the companies. Enel will continue to oversee the project, which is expected to begin operations this year.

    EDF Energy wraps up foundation installation at offshore wind pilot
    EDF Energy Renewables has finished installing five gravity-base foundations at its 41.5-megawatt Blyth offshore wind pilot off the coast of England, said the company. It added that Jan de Nul is on track to begin installing the project's five 8-megawatt MHI Vestas turbines next month.

    Vestas plots growth course for turbine service unit
    Vestas has set a goal to more than double its turbine service and maintenance operations in three years, said the company, adding that it already services an installed wind capacity of 71 gigawatts worldwide. "The new target is to grow its service business by more than 50% organically towards 2020 versus 2016 revenue, while at the same time deliver best-in-class margins," said the company.

    Pittsburgh advances toward 100% by 2035 renewables goal
    Pittsburgh is moving toward its 100% by 2035 renewables goal using SmartPGH, a multipart plan based on renewables-based microgrids and energy-efficiency measures.     Opinion: Colo. utility is exploring renewable energy expansion
    Platte River Power Authority and Fort Collins Utilities in Colorado are listening to the demands of the customers and exploring options to add more renewables to their grid, write Platte River General Manager and CEO Manager Jason Frisbie and board member and Fort Collins Mayor Wade Troxell.     Ohio PSD schedules Nov. 8 hearing for Lake Erie offshore wind pilot
    The Ohio Power Siting Board will hold a hearing Nov. 8 to gather public input on the Icebreaker Wind offshore wind pilot proposed for Lake Erie. If approved, the 20.7-megawatt project will feature six 3.45-MW turbines from MHI Vestas Offshore Wind.
