The American Wind Energy Association's first American Wind Week presented an opportunity to celebrate the nation's leadership in wind and the success of companies like Blattner Energy and Anderson Trucking Service, write Blattner President Scott Blattner and Anderson CEO Rollie Anderson. "There is a large job demand in the wind industry and a stable future for a wide range of job opportunities and advancement we don't see slowing down any time soon," they write.

Opinion: Clean energy has broad support in the US
Americans from all walks of life -- urban or rural, liberal or conservative -- support clean energy development because it reduces electricity costs, benefits the environment and revitalizes dying economies, write Push Buffalo Deputy Director Rahwa Ghirmatzion and actor and Solutions Project co-founder Mark Ruffalo. N.C. coalition urges governor to pursue offshore wind
A consortium of 50 elected officials, companies, community organizations and environmental groups wrote a letter to North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper on Wednesday urging him back his pledge to support offshore wind with tangible investments. "With strong energy demand, good wind resources, port access, excellent academic institutions and maritime know-how, the Tar Heel State can usher in a new era of economic development," Southern Wind Energy Association Director Simon Mahan said.

MidAmerican taps Mortenson to build 170-MW project
MidAmerican Energy has chosen Mortenson Construction to build its 85-turbine, 170-megawatt Beaver Creek project in Iowa, said the companies. The project is part of MidAmerican's Wind XI project, which will ultimately have a capacity of 2 gigawatts.

US firm uses oil, gas experience to build offshore wind installation vessel
Naval architecture firm A.K. Suda is working on a Jones Act-compliant installation vessel designed specifically for the emerging US offshore wind industry, said the company. "With the experience gained in the oil and gas industry and a family of highly efficient liftboat designs under our belt, it was an obvious step for us to take to enter the burgeoning offshore wind market," said Managing Director Ajay Suda.

Pattern acquires 51% stake in Canadian project
Pattern Energy has purchased a 51% stake in the 179-megawatt Meikle project in British Columbia, Canada, according to the company. "Completing the acquisition of Meikle Wind adds British Columbia's largest wind power facility to our portfolio and is one of the first initiatives in our new strategic relationship with [Public Sector Pension Investment Board] Investments," said President and CEO Mike Garland.

NYSERDA completes first year of N.Y. offshore wind aerial survey
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has completed the first year of a three-year aerial survey examining New York's bird and marine mammal life and potential for offshore wind development, according to the agency. Observers say the results will be used to identify which areas would be least affected and therefore most feasible for offshore wind farms.
