Kiernan: Wind energy has much to celebrate
The American Wind Energy Association is launching what it calls #AmericanWindWeek Aug. 6 to 12 to celebrate the recent successes of the US wind industry, writes AWEA CEO Tom Kiernan. Among the successes he noted were the 40% increase in wind farms under construction in the second quarter compared to the year before, job creation in states like Kansas, and dozens of companies buying electricity from wind farms.

Analysis: Wind PTC lowers cuts, eases clean energy transition
Support mechanisms like the wind energy Production Tax Credit make sense because they effectively increase wind production, thereby driving a cost reduction and enabling a smooth, affordable transition to a clean energy economy, write Eric Williams and Eric Hittinger, assistant professors at Rochester Institute of Technology. They argue that as long as the wind PTC is doing its job of lowering wind costs, it should remain in place.

Opinion: Future of Energy Dept. lies in reducing energy demand
The Energy Department has spent the last 40 years focusing on driving down energy costs while increasing supply, which has led to major cost reductions and increased efficiency in wind, solar and other technologies, writes Michael Webber, deputy director of the Energy Institute at the University of Texas. "The next 40 years can be where we as a nation turn toward smarter energy management to maintain those gains while reducing environmental impacts," he writes.
