Transparency, research and 3 other tips to build community rapport
Wind developers can build strong ties with the communities in which they're considering placing projects by being transparent, researching the area's stance on wind at length and by getting to know community stakeholders, writes Peter Gray, director of client services at Aileron Communications. He also suggests building relationships with local wind supporters and taking time to develop strategic responses to legitimate issues, like turbine siting and access roads.

Editorial: Bill to move Maine Aqua Ventus would be a huge mistake
The Maine Legislature has already pushed away one $70 billion offshore wind farm and can't afford to do it again, which would happen if a bill is passed requiring a University of Maine-led consortium to move its Maine Aqua Ventus floating offshore wind pilot further out to sea, writes the editorial board of Bangor Daily News. "Lawmakers must reject LD 1262 or risk reminding the world that Maine is not serious about reducing energy prices and is not a place with consistent rules for doing business," it writes.

Report: Vestas announced orders for 6,445 MW in second half of 2016
Eleven turbine companies received 14,743.9-megawatts worth of new orders during the second half of last year, but Vestas emerged as the leader, with orders accounting for 6,445.15-MW of that total, according to Navigant Research. "Wind farm developers are becoming more willing to explore regions of less-than-ideal wind resources, and wind turbine manufacturers are using larger rotors and higher hub heights to maximize capacity factors in these regions," said research analyst Adam Wilson, adding that Vestas is leading in that area.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., has introduced the Clean Energy for America Act, a sweeping bill that aims to reform all 44 of the nation's tax credits, many of which he argues are too short to support long-term clean energy growth. "This bill is built around the proposition that the law ought to reward innovative energy technologies with incentives that spark investment in the private economy," he said.
