Trump should tap renewables to drive job growth, Jimmy Carter says
President Donald Trump could create millions of US jobs by supporting the development of wind, solar and other renewable energy sources, according to former President Jimmy Carter. "If they just remember the tremendous potential of creating millions of jobs in America just from renewable energy sources, that would be a very good counter-argument to those who oppose the concept of global warming being caused by human activity," he said.

Report: US energy costs fell to record low in 2016 from clean energy, gas
The cost of electricity in the US fell to record lows last year due to the rise of renewables and other forms of clean energy technology and natural gas, according to the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and Bloomberg New Energy Finance. "Energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy are benefiting American consumers, American businesses and American manufacturers. And that adds up to one conclusion: Clean energy wins for America," said BCSE President Lisa Jacobson.

Texas lawmakers should rally behind wind and natural gas, the two major energy sources in the state, writes the editorial board of The Houston Chronicle. "The Lone Star State should celebrate as our electrical grid is powered by indigenous gas and wind," argues the board, adding that it's time for lawmakers to think beyond party lines.

Court to issue verdict on N.Y. offshore wind lease lawsuit
A federal court is expected to issue a verdict on a preliminary injunction filed against the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management over its offshore wind development area off the coast of New York in the near future. The injunction, filed by the Fisheries Survival Fund and other groups, argues that BOEM failed to properly consider how offshore wind development in the area would affect wildlife and the fishing sector.

Analysis: Surge in Nordic wind installations hinders support mechanism
A surge in wind installations in Norway and Sweden last year has placed downward pressure on a $100 million renewables-certificate program, according to this analysis. Observers say the increased capacity cut certificate prices by 45%, which makes the scheme less attractive for potential investors.
