Dairyland Power secures PPA with Iowa wind farm
The Dairyland Power Cooperative has secured a power purchase agreement with Avangrid Renewables for 80 megawatts of output from its 160-MW Barton project in Iowa, according to the duo. Dairyland Vice President of Strategic Planning John Carr said it was able to reach the deal through its participation in the National Renewable Cooperative Organization.

RES installs final machine at 17-turbine project in UK
RES has erected the 17th and final Vestas V100 wind turbine at its 30.6-megawatt Garreg Lwyd Hill project in Powys, Wales, UK, according to the company. The project is expected to begin operations by the end of March.

Ramboll wins contract to study Mass. offshore wind potential
Ramboll Environ has won a contract from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to participate in a study into Massachusetts' potential for offshore wind development, according to the company. "The study will yield a series of property assessments to guide offshore wind developers, manufacturers and private investors in their selection of sites to fabricate, manufacture, stage, deploy and service offshore wind components in Massachusetts and along the East Coast," said Ramboll.

Siemens prepares to close Danish blade factory
Siemens has decided to close a turbine blade factory in Engesvang, Denmark, eliminating 430 jobs, according to the company. Siemens attributed its decision to being unable to expand the factory to produce larger turbine blades.

Nev. lawmaker proposes 50% by 2025 renewable energy goal
Nevada Assemblyman Chris Brooks has proposed a bill seeking to increase the state's renewable energy mandate from 25% by 2025 to 50% by 2025. The state's law currently applies to renewable energy sourced from wind, solar, water, geothermal and biomass.

Ohio bill seeks to roll back energy efficiency, clean energy standards
Ohio state Rep. Louis Blessing is seeking co-sponsors for a draft bill that would reduce the state's clean energy and energy efficiency requirements for utilities. In December, Gov. John Kasich vetoed a bill that would have made the state's Renewable Portfolio Standard optional for the next two years.

New record: Plains states exceed 50% wind power
A region stretching from Montana to Texas set a new record this week, hitting a mark many considered impossible just a few years ago: wind supplied the Southwest Power Pool with 52% of its electricity on Sunday. The SPP is a grid operator for parts of 14 states and manages over 60,000 miles of transmission lines. Sunday's high-water mark bests the previous record of 49.2%, achieved last spring. Read more.
