Opinion: New eagle permit rule will provide long-term security
The US Fish and Wildlife Service's new 30-year maximum for eagle take permits will provide wind developers with the long-term stability they need to make investment decisions, while providing conservation benefits for eagles, US Fish and Wildlife Director Dan Ashe writes. "Public attention on eagle loss in recent years has focused almost exclusively on wind energy. In truth, wind turbine collisions comprise a fraction of human-caused eagle losses," he writes.

Policy Watch
Analysis: Market forces drive wind growth, not federal policy
Market forces are a bigger driver for wind development than federal policy, which means the industry will likely persevere regardless of actions of the Trump administration, according to this analysis. Sam Jaffe, managing director of Cairn Energy Research Advisors, said that the nation's lack of federal support for wind -- once thought of as a hindrance -- may now become a benefit because the industry has learned to stand on its own.

AWEA News
What The Associated Press, Fox News missed in eagle conservation rule reporting
No, eagle populations have never been at risk from wind power and are not now. To start with, the new US Fish and Wildlife Service eagle permits are not specific to wind -- they apply to anyone who might unintentionally harm an eagle by an otherwise lawful activity, after taking every step possible to avoid and offset the threat with conservation measures. And contrary to some reports, bald eagles almost never strike a turbine, with only a handful of recorded impacts in the 40-year history of American wind power. Read more.
