Iowa a national example in wind leadership, says AWEA's Hensley
Iowa, the first state in the US to source more than one-third of its total electricity from wind, is a national leader in wind development, writes American Wind Energy Association Manager of Industry Data and Analysis John Hensley. "By hitting an impressive new milestone, Iowa is showing the rest of the country what a wind-powered future looks like," he writes.

Opinion: Renewables are mainstream enough to offset fossil fuels
Renewable energy technology has advanced to the point where it is now considered a viable alternative to fossil fuel generation in the US, writes Edward Jepson Jr., an instructor at the University of Idaho. Citing a National Renewable Energy Laboratory report, Jepson argues that the US can make the switch by looking at renewable energy deployment as a local issue, and figuring out how much land mass each state or region must dedicate to renewables compared to their total energy usage.

Wind leases provide many rural farmers with a much-needed source of revenue, especially during a time when commodity prices are plummeting, according to this analysis. With livestock prices so low, "I'd take turbines any day," Nebraska farmer Steve Brockhaus. Bloomberg New Energy Finance North American Wind Energy Analyst Alex Morgan said the industry could provide rural farmers with up to $900 million per year in land leases by 2030.
