AWEA's Sopko: Offshore wind costs continue to fall as industry grows
The cost of offshore wind development will continue to decline as technology advances and the industry matures in the US, writes American Wind Energy Association Advocacy and Federal Legislative Affairs Manager Nancy Sopko in this piece debunking a recent op-ed from Dan Ervin. "More states are increasing their Renewable Portfolio Standards because they know integrating more renewable energy will save money, increase reliability and produce clean air," she writes.

Election won't stop shift toward gas, renewables, says ex-EPA official
Natural gas and renewables will likely continue to thrive in the US and drive down carbon emissions regardless of the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, said Bob Perciasepe, former acting administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency. He added that several regulations passed by Congress -- like the extension of the wind energy Production Tax Credit -- will continue to drive the shift toward renewables for four to six more years.

583,000 land-based turbines could power US, says AWEA's Hensley
It would take 583,000 land-based turbines -- enough to cover an area the size of Rhode Island -- to generate 100% of the US' total electricity needs, according to American Wind Energy Association Manager of Industry Data and Analysis John Hensley. Observers say while this calculation is a hypothetical exercise, any investment in land-based or offshore wind would help the US transition to a clean energy economy.

Clean Line Energy's Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project, if approved, would generate $660 million in economic investment in Arkansas over a 30-month period, according to the University of Arkansas. Regardless of the report, observers say that 100% of the state's congressional delegation in Washington, D.C., continues to object to the project.
