Deepwater Wind has erected the fifth and final turbine at the Block Island offshore wind farm near Rhode Island, according to CEO Jeff Grybowski. He said the final blade went up on Thursday.

Report: Wind prices continue to fall, attract investments
Utility and nonutility buyers will no doubt continue to be attracted by the "rock-bottom levels" of wind energy prices, according to a report from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the US Department of Energy. "Moreover, enabled by technology advancements, wind projects are economically viable in a growing number of locations throughout the United States," said Berkeley Lab senior scientist Ryan Wiser.

MidAmerican has big plans for wind, says CEO

MidAmerican Energy has big plans for wind development in the US, starting with its proposed 2,000-megawatt Wind XI project in Iowa, according to CEO and President Bill Fehrman. "Once the project is complete, we will generate wind energy equal to 85% of our annual customer sales in Iowa, bringing us within striking distance of our 100% renewable vision," he said.

Enercon prepares to launch 230-MW Niagara project in Ontario
Enercon is preparing to begin operations at a 230-megawatt project in Ontario, Canada, that will feature 66 3-MW and 11 2.9-MW E101 turbines, according to the company. The province's Independent Electricity System Operator has secured a 20-year power purchase agreement with the project.

Siemens advances 402-MW offshore wind farm in UK
Siemens is making progress on the 402-megawatt Dudgeon offshore wind farm off the coast of England in the North Sea, said the developer, adding that it recently finished installing some important parts of project's grid connection. The project, which is owned by Statoil, Statkraft and Masdar, will feature a total of 67 6-MW offshore turbines.

JV launches 95-MW wind farm in South Africa
Tata Power and Exxaro Resources' joint venture Cennergi has begun operations at the 95-megawatt, 31-turbine Tsitsikamma Community wind farm in South Africa, according to the companies. "The commissioning of the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm has further augmented Tata Power's renewables portfolio outside India and represents the company's commitment and progress on its objectives of enhancing non-fossil based generation portfolio up to 30-40% of its total generating capacity," said Tata Managing Director and CEO Anil Sardana.

Analysis: Coal-to-wind switch could save Colo. consumers money
Colorado could replace 6,000 gigawatt-hours of coal generation with 2 GW of new installed wind capacity without risking grid reliability, according to this analysis. Observers say the switch would also save consumers money because the wind energy Production Tax Credit appears to bring the cost of new Colorado wind down below that of coal.

Report: European offshore wind investment hit $15.9B in first half
Offshore wind investment in Europe climbed to $15.85 billion during the first half of the year, surpassing the total spent during the entire course of 2015, according to research firm Planet OS. The report said that the UK accounted for 75% of that growth.

Hawaiian island needs $8B in infrastructure upgrades, says expert
Hawaiian Electric and other groups would have to spend a total of $8 billion on infrastructure projects to prepare Hawaii's Oahu island for a 100% renewable energy economy, according to former Hawaii Public Utilities Commission member John Cole. The state of Hawaii, meanwhile, has set a goal to source 100% of its total electricity from renewables by 2045.
