The cost of wind generation has declined 66% over the past six years, according to the American Wind Energy Association. "From the cornfields of Iowa to the windswept plains of Texas, by improving our technology and lowering wind power's costs, we're saving you money," said CEO Tom Kiernan. "It's a credit to American ingenuity and manufacturing," he added.

Trident Winds seeks approval for Calif. floating offshore wind farm
Trident Winds is seeking approval for a floating offshore wind farm off the coast of California that could feature up to 100 turbines for a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts. The Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy said that California's coast could support an installed offshore wind capacity of almost 1 terawatt -- 13 times the combined capacity of every land-based wind farm under operation in the US.

Cape Wind faces new challenges in Mass., say observers
Cape Wind has been struggling to get an offshore wind farm proposed for Massachusetts' Nantucket Sound off the ground for years. Observers say that the company may face new opposition in the form of former state House Speaker Tom Finneran, who recently joined the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound -- one of the groups most opposed to Cape Wind's project. The state is also considering an offshore wind bill that would block the project on two fronts.
