To build on the success Advocacy Advance achieved in 2012, this partnership between the Alliance and the League of American Bicyclists is hosting at least nine more Navigating MAP-21 Workshops this year.

The Advocacy Advance team will be facilitating these free one-day trainings on how to maximize funding for investments in biking and walking in the following locations (dates will be announced this month):

  • Florida (multiple locations in the state)
  • Wichita, KS
  • Chesapeake, VA
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Northwest Arkansas
  • Tulsa, OK
  • Omaha, NE
  • Baton Rouge, LA
  • Charleston, WV

Advocacy Advance is also working with partners to maximize bike/ped funding in each state through the Navigating MAP-21 program. To get involved in your state Navigating MAP-21 campaign, make contact with your state lead.

Advocacy Advance hosted a webinar in December on "How Metropolitan Planning Organizations Plan for and Fund Bicycling and Walking Investments," and you can access the materials from that presentation. See the Upcoming Calls section below to register for the upcoming Navigating MAP-21 Webinars on January 29 and February 19.

Guide to Fundraising Part Three Available
"Finding Local Funding Sources," part three of the Alliance's evolving Guide to Fundraising series, is now available in the Alliance Resource Library.

This guide builds off of "Creating and Implementing an Effective Fundraising Plan" and "Anatomy of a Winning Proposal" to help you take advantage of local sources of funding, including membership and donors, local foundations, sponsorships and events.

With examples from Alliance organizations and fundraising professionals, this guide will help you increase the most important and sustainable portions of your organization's income -- those contributions that come from members of your community.

Members, check out the three parts of the Guide to Fundraising in the Alliance Resource Library today!

Still Accepting Benchmarking Surveys

As part of the ongoing benchmarking project, Alliance staff is in the process of collecting surveys requesting data from all 50 states and the 50 most populous cities in the U.S.

These surveys are an important and necessary component of the biennial Bicycling and Walking in the United States: Benchmarking Report.

If you received a survey request from the Alliance and have not yet submitted your city or state's data, please be sure to get it in soon to be included.

If you have any questions or difficulty completing the survey, contact Maggie Melin at Maggie@PeoplePoweredMovement.org as soon as possible.
