New Documentary: "A Chemical Reaction"

One town's fight against pesticides on lawns and the serious side effects on people and especially children, including rashes and hospitalizations. Playing at film festivals in 2009, and hopefully due for general release soon. Check out their web site and a movie trailer here: http://www.pfzmedia.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=53

My note on their guest book:

I tried an organic lawn until...

...the foreclosure. I read an article on organic lawn care in Conscious Choice magazine. ( http://www.lime.com/magazines?uri=consciouschoice.com/lime/2006/07/organiclawns0607.html ) I had also been reading the Sanibel-Captiva Islander, which is the local news paper for Sanibel & Captiva islands, which are small barrier islands off the coast of Florida next to Fort Meyers, FL. There were several articles on red tide and people getting sick from eating shellfish during red tide blooms. People can die from that; red tide is an algal bloom supported in large part by fertilizer runoff from the Mississippi River, and coming from lawns and farms in the Midwest. I'm in Chicago. I've been to Sanibel, it's beautiful. I've eaten sea food there. Red tide produces a neurotoxin similar to nerve gas in its effects. We are literally poisoning our soil, the oceans, and our Southern neighbors for pretty lawns. I would love to get a copy of this film!
