Tricks of the Trade

Small Changes Add Up
If 10,000 Chicago Biters swap hip vintage tees instead of buying new ones, we'll avert the weight of 32 Kate Mosses in pesticides.

Cocktail Tidbit
In a recent poll, 80% of women surveyed admitted that they never wear 25% of the clothes in their closet.

What’s the trick to getting new clothes for cheap? Trading. Read this twice: In with the old and out with the old. That’s the motto at Swap-O-Rama-Rama, the latest DIY craze that’ll hit Chicago this Sat. For 20 bucks and a sack of your old duds, a giant swap pile is yours for the rifling (you’re welcome to a little or a lot). Our fave part: Take your new loot over to the creative reuse section of the room where needle-and-thread-savvy volunteers will help you transform or repair clothes with sewing machines and fabric tools. In with the old and out with a brand new wardrobe is more like it.

Wanna Try?
Swap-O-Rama-Rama; Mar. 29, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; AV-aerie, 2000 W. Fulton St., Ste. 310, b/t Damen Ave. and Wolcott St. (312-342-6280). Suggested donation, $20.
