RE: HEALTH SERVICE OFFERS A DOSE OF ONLINE STRESS RELIEF

MADISON - As college students race toward the end of the year and final exams loom, stress levels soar.

Urgent mental health requests can always be accommodated by counselors at University Health Services (UHS), but students don't necessarily need an appointment to find relief from semester-end pressures. The UHS Web site features a section on "End of the Year Stress Resources and Tips" at http://www.uhs.wisc.edu/display_news.jsp?id=199&cat_id

One new resource stands out: relaxation exercises posted as MP3s. These are easily downloadable and can help ease students' stress without taking up a chunk of valuable study or sleep time. The exercises were recorded by Rob Sepich, a counselor at UHS Counseling and Consultation Services who specializes in stress reduction.

"These are the kinds of exercises I use with students in my office," says Sepich. "Having the files posted on the Web makes them available to everyone, without an appointment. Students can listen off the Web or download them to their iPods or other devices."

Sample the files at http://forms.uhs.wisc.edu/relaxation.php

To contact Rob Sepich, call 265-2536 or email rtsepich@wisc.edu. Any UW-Madison student concerned about their own mental health, or that of another student, can call for mental health crisis services any time of day or night at 265-5600.
