Congress Taking Dead Aim at Endangered Species

Monk Seal

Help us defend endangered species like the monk seal by supporting our Emergency Campaign to Save the ESA.

This is a moment of grave peril for America's endangered species and our natural heritage.

The U.S. Senate is poised to take up a bill that would cripple the Endangered Species Act - putting nearly 1,300 native species at risk of extinction. Grizzly bears, grey wolves and bald eagles are part of America's natural heritage, and it's our responsibility to make sure they are here for future generations.

That's why Environmental Defense Action Fund is launching an Emergency Campaign to Save the Endangered Species Act, and we need your help. Donate now to help us tell Congress: Hands off America's natural heritage.

With your help, we will:

  • Mobilize tens of thousands of citizens to write letters, make phone calls and send faxes - last week, nearly 20,000 people took action. With your help, we'll keep the pressure on.
  • Focus on senators who hold key swing votes.
  • Step up an aggressive press outreach.
  • Intensify direct lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill.

In late September, the U.S. House of Representatives rushed through a shortsighted bill that would cripple the ESA. The Senate is now poised to take up the issue.

We're doing everything we can to tell Senators to reject the disastrous House-passed bill. Your donation will affirm America's commitment to its most imperiled plants and animals by helping us deliver our message directly to the Senate.

For 30 years, the Endangered Species Act has successfully protected more than 1,000 native animals and plants. Just look at the numbers - 99% of all species listed as threatened or endangered are still with us, and 50% of all listed species have either stabilized or are recovering. For species that have been protected for more than 15 years, 2 out of 3 are stable or recovering.

And yet, some in Congress would tear down this bedrock environmental law. Together, we can stop them.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Fred Krupp

P.S. With your donation, we'll make sure Congress gets the message: Hands off America's natural heritage.
