Dear Daniel Stafford,

I know we've sent you several emails about the Governor's plan
to pass both a renewable energy portfolio standard (RPS) and an
energy efficiency portfolio standard, but we need all your
support now in order to push the Illinois Commerce Commission
(ICC) into action. We thank you for writing letters to the
editor and letters of thanks to the Governor, now we just need
some letters to be sent to Chairman Hurley at the ICC to ensure
that they pass the Governor's Sustainable Energy Plan. This is
an important crossroads for the state of Illinois, so if you
value finally achieving real renewable energy and energy
efficiency legislation, send a message to Chairman Hurley that
the ICC to approve the Governor's plan now!

----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

I am writing to encourage your approval of Governor
Blagojevich's proposed Sustainable Energy Plan, which would
promote sustainable renewable energy and energy efficiency
development in Illinois through a renewable energy portfolio
standard and an energy efficiency portfolio standard.

Our state will be better off if the Illinois Commerce Commission
supports the renewable energy and energy efficiency markets in
Illinois. For one thing, promoting renewable energy and energy
efficiency would benefit our economy. Ushering in a renewable
energy and efficiency market in Illinois would add jobs to the
Illinois market. It would also foster a new market for Illinois
farmers who can generate income not only from their traditional
crops, but also from alternative energy crops like wind.

Adding renewable energy complemented by energy efficiency into
the energy generation mix also makes the electric market more
stable because it becomes more diversified and has less stress
put on it. Adding energy sources like wind, solar, and biomass
to the mix while simultaneously using less power overall means a
decreased dependence on polluting energy sources such as coal,
and makes our environment cleaner as time passes.

Seventeen other states currently have renewable energy portfolio
standards including our neighbors, Minnesota, Iowa, and
Wisconsin. Renewable energy will not develop in Illinois without
the Sustainable Energy Plan, because the utilities will not
voluntarily commit to increasing renewable energy production or
investing in energy efficiency measures. It is clear that
Illinois would benefit from passing the Governor's Sustainable
Energy Plan into law. I hope that you will consider supporting
this proposal and help make Illinois a state that plans for the
future of its economy and its environment.

----END OF LETTER TO BE SENT----

Sincerely,
Daniel Stafford
